Course Overview

Mental Health Training Program XII (MHTP XII)

A one-year part time hybrid training program offered by Ummeed Child Development Center

This program provides an understanding of using narrative ideas and practices in working with children, young people with developmental disabilities and their families.

Narrative ideas and practices is a respectful, non-blaming approach to counselling and community work that centers people as experts of their own lives. It is relevant in the Indian context.

Some of the key ideas are viewing the problem as separate from people, using people’s knowledge and skills in reducing the influence of problems in their lives and creating an identity that fits with their hopes, values, dreams and commitments.

Goals

A thorough exploration of the Narrative metaphor and its application in practice, including the background ideas and guiding principles of Narrative therapy
Skills development of the micro-maps of narrative practice as it relates to work in a variety of contexts and settings
Practice based collaborative learning including reviewing stories of therapeutic conversations, transcripts, therapeutic letters and interviews
