Family Day - December 2024

To celebrate International Day for Persons with Disabilities, Ummeed hosted Family Day – an event at the Dadar Parsi Colony Gymkhana grounds on Sunday, 1st December, 2024.
Having access to recreation and leisure is extremely important for the overall development of children with disabilities and for the well-being of their families. At Ummeed’s Family Day, children and families had the opportunity to participate in fun activities in a community space without any barriers.
The event saw a footfall of around 1000 people. The vibrant atmosphere and enthusiastic participation set the tone of the event. Attractions included diverse product stalls by persons with disabilities, their families and by organizations working with persons with disabilities, showcasing their handiwork, skill, and zeal for self-employment. Games and activities were greatly enjoyed by children and adults alike. The stage came alive with music and dance showcasing talents of individuals with disabilities and others. A captivating drum circle resonated through the venue, inviting everyone to join in and dance to the rhythm. A quiet zone with sensory experiences was available for those who needed quiet time to self-regulate.
The event fostered a sense of community and belonging, but the true highlight of the day was the freedom with which children and their families enjoyed themselves. This unique event underscored the need for more such inclusive spaces for children with disabilities and their families.
