Professionals and
Community Workers

Ummeed offers pre-service and in-service training and capacity building programs for professionals such as doctors, therapists, teachers /education professionals and community workers. The goal is to share evidence-based and culturally relevant intervention practices for children with and at risk of disabilities so that they can be supported in reaching their developmental potential.

Ummeed’s trainings don’t just offer technical knowledge and skills; they also espouse the values of family-centered care, strengths-based approaches, the biopsychosocial model of disability and participation-based outcomes – all of which can be seen in action in Ummeed’s own clinical services to children and families.

Ummeed’s offerings for professionals include long-term training programs (three-month to one-year programs including didactic teaching as well as supervision and mentoring), short-term trainings such as sensitization and skill-building workshops, fellowship programs, internships and observerships.

Community Workers

A key feature of many of these training programs for professionals is that they have parents/caregivers/young adults who are self-advocates as co-facilitators. The goal is for trainees to hear about their lived experiences and hopes, and to learn to partner with them in the care of the child.

Ummeed also does implementation research and data evaluation of its interventions, which are presented and published actively.

Our goal is to attract professionals and community workers who are eager and interested in creating safe and inclusive spaces for children with and at risk of disabilities, to engage with us and be part of our larger community. Over 6,000 professionals and community workers from almost every state and union territory are part of our training community, and we’d like this to become larger, wider, and deeper.
