Clinical Services

Bg

Clinical Services is at the heart of Ummeed's work. Since its inception in 2001, Ummeed has been offering high-quality, evidence-based, and
culturally-relevant clinical services to children and families with diverse disabilities. It is through these clinical practices, that its other verticals of
work such as training, research, and awareness and advocacy have been derived.

Principles and Values of Clinical Care at Ummeed

The team at Ummeed follows and advocates for the biopsychosocial model of disability over the deficit-focused medical model. Thus, services are ‘strengths-based’, instead of trying to ‘fix’ what is wrong with the child, the team works with what the child can do well and uses this to help them learn new skills, achieve developmental milestones, and participate in the home, school, and community.

Services are family centered – respectful, knowledge-sharing, collaborative, joint decision making – and recognize the skills and expertise of the family and empower them to support their child’s development and advocate for them.

Ummeed believes and ensures that the voice of the child and the caregiver form an important part of the child’s goal plan, bringing a sense of ownership to the child and caregiver.

Journey of a Child and Family at Ummeed

The clinical services at Ummeed, i.e., the developmental therapy and intervention programs help children develop a wide variety of skills and provide them with tools to help them navigate their social and physical world. While the journey of every child and family availing clinical services at Ummeed is individualized, the broad steps are summarized in the pathway below:

Community Workers

Family contacts
Ummeed

Child initially assessed by developmental pediatrician (DP), followed by referral for appropriate therapies

Child assessed by therapy teams which determine schedule of interventions

*Pediatric assessment is an evaluation done to assess a child’s physical, cognitive, or social growth. A pediatrician will look at the mental and physical factors in the child, family and environment that affect the child's development.

** Therapies include Autism Intervention

Speech Therapy, Mental Health Counselling,
and Testing and Remedial Services.

Services of a Social Worker are provided to
each family at Ummeed to help them
navigate their journey within Ummeed as well
as for them to access resources from outside
of Ummeed.

Book Now/Appointment

Our scheduling team will help you by asking a few relevant questions and schedule the earliest appointment based on the availability. We do offer face-to-face appointments at our center as well as online consultations (on a case-to-case basis).

We believe that the ability to pay shouldn’t come in the way of receiving the best services for children, hence, the fee for Ummeed’s services operate on a sliding scale depending on the individual financial situation of every family. The scheduling team will speak with you about this as well in your initial interaction.
