Who can apply : The Community Mental Health Training Program (CMHTP) is a one-year, part-time training program for organizations/community workers working with children and families with disabilities in communities. It comprises teaching, supervision and mentorship modules.
The CMHTP provides an understanding of using narrative ideas and practices in working with families and children with disabilities in communities.
Narrative ideas and practices is a respectful, non-blaming approach to counselling and community work that is relevant in the Indian context. Some of the key ideas include viewing the problem as separate from the person, using people’s knowledge and skills in reducing the influence of problems and creating an identity that fits better with their hopes, dreams and values.
The program trains community workers in early identification, awareness creation, stigma reduction and providing appropriate mental health care to people in the communities with mental health concerns and disorders using narrative practice and ideas.

It is structured into nine monthly teaching blocks of four days each

A thorough exploration of the Narrative metaphor and its application in practice, including the background ideas and guiding principles of Narrative therapy
Skills development of the micro-maps of narrative practice as it relates to work in a variety of contexts and settings
Practice-based collaborative learning including reviewing stories of therapeutic conversations, transcripts and interviews
