The Mental Health Training Program is a one-year part-time training program that provides an understanding of using narrative ideas and practices in working with children with developmental disabilities and their families.
Narrative ideas and practices is a respectful, non-blaming approach to counselling and community work that is relevant in the Indian context. Some of the key ideas include viewing the problem as separate from the person, using people’s knowledge and skills in reducing the influence of problems and creating an identity that fits better with their hopes, dreams and values.
Highlights:
The program spans one-year and is structured into five teaching blocks of five days each
Weekly supervision meetings are conducted between the teaching blocks with the intention of supporting skill development in the work context of the participants.

Objectives:
A thorough exploration of the Narrative metaphor and its application in practice, including the background ideas and guiding principles of Narrative therapy
Skills development of the micro-maps of narrative practice as it relates to work in a variety of contexts and settings
Practice-based collaborative learning including reviewing stories of therapeutic conversations, transcripts, therapeutic letters and interviews
